Rebecca Worthley’s musical journey started when she was a child, dancing and singing around her grandfather’s piano with her sisters. The pass-time grew slowly into a passion, fronting a university band and weaving amongst genres until she decided it was time to record an album. In a distinctly yellow spare room with two friends and lots of wires the album Myths & Elegies was created. Time and money were sparse but creativity flowed and an album rich with emotion was produced; political, personal, and courageous it immediately pricked up industry ears. Named one of the Top 25 Independent Albums of 2006 by Indie-Music.com and drawing comparisons as varied as Enya, Dido, Tori Amos and Kate Bush it also attracted the attentions of Ivor Novello Award winning producer Mark Hill, resulting in her current EP released on Centric Records in 2007. Championed by BBC Radio 2’s legendary Bob Harris her music enjoys frequent airplay, and elicited enough listener requests for a live studio session on his show last year. 2’s Jeremy Vine has also joined a long list of media and industry gushing praise and breakout predictions. A regular on the live scene in her native West Country and the South Coast, Rebecca has also performed at many of London’s best small venues like the Barfly, Bedford, Slaughtered Lamb and Café Suki, beguiling and captivating audiences with simple, stripped down and acoustic performances. Currently busy recording a new album for release with a full UK tour later this year Rebecca is rapidly emerging as one of the UK’s most talented new vocal and lyrical talents and a welcome return to British female artists actually singing actual songs; we’re counting down the days…
