Toby (vocals & guitar), Dave (vocals & bass) and Andy (vocals & percussion) starting writing and performing music together in 1998 with their early experience of playing out centred around turning up at parties, being given an acoustic guitar and performing in kitchens, bedrooms and gardens. In 2002 they reached into the London live scene and performed at The Rock Garden, Sound, The Kings Head, The Hope and Anchor and W14 promoting Toby's solo album; The Sound Sanctuary, which showed off his writing skills and attracted the unexpected attentions of Lynn Parsons who played several tracks on her night time BBC Radio 2 show. The band began writing together with a new confidence, and were asked by producers Bombay Monkey if they'd like to record at their new studio Lo-Tek based in the Ashdown Forest (Winnie the Pooh country!). Bombay Monkey's experience was in electronica, dance, hip hop and Super Mario Karting, but they fell in love with the acoustic side of Sound Sanctuary and between 2003 and 2004 the collaboration produced two demos popular around London’s acoustic music venues. The Contact EP was released in 2005, earning plays by Nick Luscombe on XFM and distribution from Pinnacle to online and high street music stores nationwide. Over 2006 and 2007 the band started working, again alongside Bombay Monkey, on their debut LP Dust. It delivered exactly what the EP had promised; a swirling mixture of pitch perfect harmonies, warm flowing basslines, gentle acoustics and laid back hip hop drum loops and samples. Recruiting percussionist Steve the band started gigging regularly and developing a uniquely chilled out and finely tuned live sound. Live performances on Sky’s Life TV and BBC regional radio followed, with regular gigs at The Acoustic Lounge, The Troubador, Gazastock Festival, The Mini Chill Festival and The Big Secret alongside the release of single Broken Signs and an impressively put together video on You Tube and Myspace. Support from distributor Pinnacle has continued and since joining Coffee Artists the band have been writing new material, toured across the south, performed at the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend Fringe Festival, are amongst the top 10 bands in the Surface Unsigned competition and about to embark on their first full UK tour.
